Skiing at Breckenridge

The kids had off Friday and Monday for the Easter holiday and we took a last-minute trip to Colorado for family skiing. Ranger had been hoping to ski this season, and when Breckenridge announced that because of cold weather and good snow that it was staying open longer, we thought it was destiny! We were able to non-rev to Denver. The way home was a little trickier, but we eventually got home (at 1am Tuesday morning) after some creativity and scrambling. Here is the daily breakdown:
- Friday: 6:30am flight to Denver via Houston. The kids were troopers! Yummy lunch on the patio in Idaho Springs at Smokin Yards BBQ. Checkin to Beaver Run. We had a nice roomy condo that was 2 stories and 2 big bedrooms. Checked out our skis. Kids made new friends and went sledding. Had a few snacks and crashed pretty early.
- Saturday: Colton at Ski School - he did great. Grant, Cadie, Ranger, and I skied together. Weather was glorious. Dinner at The Canteen with Higgles Ice Cream afterwards. Hot tubs and then bed.
- Sunday: Watched the Easter service on the LiveCast. All family ski day! Weather was wonderful, until a crazy hard snow storm started at about 2pm. Colton and I came off the mountain when it first started snowing, but the other 3 went back up. It ended up being difficult conditions and they came down after their next run. Turned in skiis. Headed to hot tubs. It was really fun to hot tub in the snow. Naps. Dinner at Eric's in the Basement. Kids enjoyed playing arcade games. Crepes for dessert. I took the kids to the heated outside pool after dinner, but Grant was tired so he went to bed.
- Monday: Relaxed morning packing and checking out of hotel. High ropes course and then Argo Mining Tour. Flight back home that got us in just after midnight. Happy to be home and in our own beds.

I loved getting to ski with our little family. We were so impressed that Colton learned to ski so well. He explained that he was 5 now which made it a lot easier to learn to ski than when he was only four. Of course that makes sense. JR did so many jumps and we couldn't get him to get out of the trees! He even ran into a tree (so did Grant), but he was fine. Cadie continues to be a graceful and consistent skier and prefers Greens. I do too.

Scarborough Fair!

A bit smaller group this year for our annual tradition to celebrate Big John's birthday, but still so much fun! The boys spent a very long time in the maze and Cadie walked a glass blower make a small octopus for almost an hour. I think I need to take her to a glass blowing class.

JR's Art Show

Jack Ranger was so excited to get selected as only one of two UP Elementary 2nd graders to have their art featured in an HP District Art Show. Mrs. Torres, JR's art Teacher, said Jack Ranger worked so hard on this sewing fiber art. JR was supposed to be at tennis from 4-5pm, but he begged to skip tennis so he could be at the art reception for the entire time. He was so cute! We wrapped up the evening with a little birthday party for Papa. Happy 68th Birthday!

Why JR thinks he should get a puppy

I can't seem to get away from the kids wanting a dog! Even their writing homework is targeted at continuing their campaign. Good thing I am as stubborn as they are.

Beginning Sentence: this year Im really hoping to get a puppy
First reason: you won't ever have to take care of it
Example: ill feed every day
Second reason: you won't even have to buy it
Example: Ill pay for it with my own money
Third reason: and Ill walk it every day.
Example: after i get home ill take it to go on a walk
Fourth reason: Ill even get dog food for it
Example: and feed it every meal
Ending sentence: (restate your beginning sentence) and thats why I should get a puppy

CJ and Eddie are Married!

Thirty hours in Kona to see my sister get married. Totally worth it! I was not sure of my travel plans, right up until the last moment. Grant was able to find a great deal with points and I left for Hawaii on a super early morning Thursday flight, flew through LAX, and was in Kona at 12:30pm. Dad picked me up at the airport and then dropped me off to meet Mom and CJ at the salon while she was getting her hair done! I had just enough time after the hair appointment to get Shave Ice. So yummy!

The wedding was Thursday evening, and it was sweet because CJ didn't want Eddie to see her before the ceremony. We had a lovely dinner overlooking the water afterwards. I stayed at the Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel and it felt amazing. I was tired from the travel, and I slept in on Friday morning, laid by the pool, had lunch at the poolside cabana, got a late check-out, and then got an early evening flight back to Dallas. I arrived home early Saturday morning and still got to have a weekend with the fam.

CJ was so beautiful and I loved getting to witness such a beautiful and special evening. My Dad did the ceremony and he was funny and thoughtful. We face-timed B during the ceremony. The ocean and sunset were amazing and I also loved getting to meet Eddie's family.
