Skiing at Breckenridge
The kids had off Friday and Monday for the Easter holiday and we took a last-minute trip to Colorado for family skiing. Ranger had been hoping to ski this season, and when Breckenridge announced that because of cold weather and good snow that it was staying open longer, we thought it was destiny! We were able to non-rev to Denver. The way home was a little trickier, but we eventually got home (at 1am Tuesday morning) after some creativity and scrambling. Here is the daily breakdown:
- Friday: 6:30am flight to Denver via Houston. The kids were troopers! Yummy lunch on the patio in Idaho Springs at Smokin Yards BBQ. Checkin to Beaver Run. We had a nice roomy condo that was 2 stories and 2 big bedrooms. Checked out our skis. Kids made new friends and went sledding. Had a few snacks and crashed pretty early.
- Saturday: Colton at Ski School - he did great. Grant, Cadie, Ranger, and I skied together. Weather was glorious. Dinner at The Canteen with Higgles Ice Cream afterwards. Hot tubs and then bed.
- Sunday: Watched the Easter service on the LiveCast. All family ski day! Weather was wonderful, until a crazy hard snow storm started at about 2pm. Colton and I came off the mountain when it first started snowing, but the other 3 went back up. It ended up being difficult conditions and they came down after their next run. Turned in skiis. Headed to hot tubs. It was really fun to hot tub in the snow. Naps. Dinner at Eric's in the Basement. Kids enjoyed playing arcade games. Crepes for dessert. I took the kids to the heated outside pool after dinner, but Grant was tired so he went to bed.
- Monday: Relaxed morning packing and checking out of hotel. High ropes course and then Argo Mining Tour. Flight back home that got us in just after midnight. Happy to be home and in our own beds.
I loved getting to ski with our little family. We were so impressed that Colton learned to ski so well. He explained that he was 5 now which made it a lot easier to learn to ski than when he was only four. Of course that makes sense. JR did so many jumps and we couldn't get him to get out of the trees! He even ran into a tree (so did Grant), but he was fine. Cadie continues to be a graceful and consistent skier and prefers Greens. I do too.

Scarborough Fair!
A bit smaller group this year for our annual tradition to celebrate Big John's birthday, but still so much fun! The boys spent a very long time in the maze and Cadie walked a glass blower make a small octopus for almost an hour. I think I need to take her to a glass blowing class.
