We just got back today from almost 4 days in Cozumel. Big John and DD (Grant's parents) went with us and we had an amazing time. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy Cadie, but also have some time to ourselves. Cadie was just about perfect on the trip. She traveled well, slept great in a pack and play in the room, loved the pool and beach, was flexible enough in her schedule that we stayed out until 9 or 10pm every night and she received compliments from everyone. Jumping in the pool! She could do this for what seemed like hours. She especially loved it when Big John or Dad or both would throw her high. She kept asking for "air." Although these pics make it look like I didn't make her wear a suit, they were all taken in the evening when I liked to let her be a bit free. She was great about wearing her hat and swim shirt all day and she didn't get one bit burned.
It took her a little time to warm up to the beach. Big John and I spotted a hermit crab and Big John showed her how to cover the crab with sand and then watch him crawl out. As soon as she saw the crab she dropped to her belly to get a better look. Once she realized the sand was fun she was all about exploring and collecting sea shells. She liked sitting hear the little foot shower so she could rinse her hands or her seashells easily.
There was a bridge between our room and the pool that went over a lagoon that was filled with turtles. She wanted to watch the turles and throw food to them every time we crossed the bridge.
She even liked playing with the towel shapes and animals in our room every day. Really, I couldn't have asked for a better 1-year-old-traveler, or better in-laws for that matter.
